Description : Message on the LCD <Failed to scan head alignment sheet.>
How to perform Print Head Alignment (not using a computer)

If diagrams or ruled lines are misaligned, print head alignment is required.
The print head alignment can be performed automatically or manually.
If automatic print head alignment does not correct the output, adjust the print head manually.

< Automatic print head alignment >

1. Prepare to print.
1-1. Ensure that the machine is powered on and open the front feeder.
1-2. Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder.

2. Print the print head alignment pattern.
2-1. Press the Menu button.
2-2. Use the right / left cursor button to select Maintenance/settings and press the OK button.
Memo:
This procedure is skipped if your machine is in Scan mode. Proceed to step 2-3.

2-3. Use the right / left cursor button to select Maintenance and press the OK button.
2-4. Use the up / down cursor button to select Auto head align and press the OK button.



2-5. Use the up / down cursor button to select Yes, then press the OK button.
The machine prints the head alignment sheet.



3. Complete the head alignment sheet.
3-1. From each column on the head alignment sheet, select the pattern which has the least visible streaks.

3-2. Fill in the circle on the left side of the selected pattern with a dark pencil.

<1> Good example
<2> Bad example: Check mark only
<3> Bad example: Line only
<4> Bad example: Too light

4. Scan the head alignment sheet.
4-1. Open the document cover and set the head alignment sheet on the platen glass.
Memo:
- Set the sheet with the print side facing down.
- Align the sheet with the alignment mark <5> (shown as the arrow) on the upper left corner on the platen glass.


4-2. Close the document cover gently.
4-3. Press the OK button.
After the machine scans the head alignment sheet, the print head position is adjusted automatically.
Memo:
If an error occurs, please check if all the applicable circles on the head alignment sheet are properly filled in and the orientation of the sheet on the platen glass is correct; then, perform the print head alignment again.


< Manual print head alignment >

1. Prepare to print.
1-1. Ensure that the machine is powered on and open the front feeder.
1-2. Load two sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder or the front feeder.

2. Print the print head alignment pattern.
2-1. Press the Menu button.
2-2. Use the right / left cursor button to select Maintenance/settings and press the OK button.
Memo:
This procedure is skipped if your machine is in Scan mode. Proceed to step 2-3.

2-3. Use the right / left cursor button to select Maintenance and press the OK button.
2-4. Use the up / down cursor button to select Manual head align, and press the OK button.


2-5. Use the up / down cursor button to select Yes and press the OK button.
The machine prints the head alignment sheets.



- When the print head alignment pattern is printed, use the up / down cursor button to select Yes, then press the OK button.
- When the print head alignment pattern is not printed, use the up / down cursor button to select No, and press the OK button, and then print again.

3. Set the print head position.
3-1. From each column, select the pattern which has the least visible streaks.

3-2. Use the up / down cursor button to select the column to adjust.
3-3. Use the right / left cursor button to select the number of the pattern.



3-4. After setting all columns (A to M), press the OK button.
The print head position will be adjusted.
